  •  India -Maldives begins military exercise : EKUVERIN

  • Indian Army contingent departed for Kadhdhoo Island, Maldives to participate in the 11th edition of the 14-day Indo-Maldives joint military exercise 'Ekuverin' with the Maldivian National Defence Force scheduled from December 6 to 19.

  • Ekuverin means friendship in the Dhivehi language. The joint military exercise is alternately in India and Maldives. In India, it was conducted in Pune for the first time followed by Belgaum and Thiruvananthapuram.

  • The exercise will enhance synergy & inter-operability between Armed Forces of both the nations in terms of understanding transnational terrorism both on land & at sea, conducting Counter Terrorism & Counter Insurgency Operations and sharing best military practices and experiences.

  • “The exercise will go a long way in strengthening India's relations with the Maldives amidst emerging security dynamics in the Indian Ocean Region,” said India's Ministry of Defense.

  • Indian Navy “Killer Squadron” that sunk Pakistani Warships during 1971 war : receives rare Honour

  • President Ram Nath Kovind will award the President`s Standard to Indian Navy’s 22nd Missile Vessel Squadron, also known as the Killer Squadron, at a ceremonial parade to be held at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai on December 8.

  • It may be recalled that Navy’s 22nd Missile Vessel Squadron bombed the Karachi Port and sunk Pakistan Navy's vessels during the decisive 1971 war.

  • "To mark the occasion, a Special Day Cover along with a commemorative stamp will also be released by the Postal Department."

  • 50 - Bed AYUSH hospitals at Moreh : Inaugurated by CM of Manipur

  • Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh in presence of Union Ayush minister Sarbananda Sonowal virtually  inaugurated a 50-bed integrated AYUSH hospital at the border town of Moreh.

  • Singh and Sonowal were taking part in a presentation on "Phytopharmaceutical mission to promote the documentation, scientific, validation and evaluation of traditional healthcare practices of NE India".

  • Addressing the gathering, Biren stressed on the need to formulate a scientific plan to systematically grow indigenous medical plants for large-scale production. He also mentioned the need to explore the skills and knowledge of  traditional healers such as Maibas and Maibis in a more scientific manner.

  • Survey Vessel “Sandhayak” launched for Indian Navy

  • Adding new feather to the Indian Navy, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) — a Defence PSU and a leading warship building company of India launched its first indigenously built Survey Vessel — ‘Sandhayak’ in the presence of Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt.

  • These survey ships are capable of full scale coastal and deep-water hydrographic survey of Ports & Harbour approaches & determination of navigational channels and routes. In addition, these ships are also capable of undertaking surveys of Maritime limits and collection of Oceanographic and Geographical data for Defence applications, thus boosting the maritime capabilities of the country.

  • The ships are fully designed by the Design team of GRSE to meet the requirements of the Indian Navy and are being built and outfitted utilising the concepts of ‘Integrated Construction’ and in compliance with applicable provisions and regulations of the Classification Society (IRS).

  • Raksha Mantri “Rajnath Singh” attends the MSME Conclave Organised by Ministry of Defence and SIDM 

  • Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has called upon Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to invest more in research & development and manufacture new products & technologies and thereby contribute to the security and progress of the country. 

  • He was delivering the inaugural address at the MSME Conclave, organised by Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence in partnership with Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM) in hybrid mode, in New Delhi on December 04, 2021. 

  • Shri Rajnath Singh urged MSMEs and SIDM to create an industrial base in India, on the lines of 'Mittelstand' (Mittel-Stunt) of Germany, which has been recognised by the whole world for manufacturing metal equipment.

  • Shri Rajnath Singh stated that the Government is according top priority to self-reliance in defence, in view of the ever-changing security scenario, adding that there is a need to move forward to unleash the full potential of MSMEs in the sector. 

  • He exuded confidence that Indian manufacturers and their associated MSMEs will play a major role in catering to the defence needs of the country and also meet the global requirement.

  • On the important role being played by MSMEs to realise Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat’, the Raksha Mantri said, major industries play a big role in national security and economic development by manufacturing tanks, submarines, aircraft & helicopters, however, hidden behind these big platforms are small industries.

  • The consequences of China's rise and its growing capabilities are "particularly profound", External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said as he flagged the "sharpening of tensions" on territorial issues across Asia with Beijing's actions raising a question mark on the agreements of yesteryears.

  • Speaking at the fifth Indian Ocean Conference - IOC 2021 - in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, Jaishankar also said that in a globalised world, it is vital that the freedom of navigation and overflight and unimpeded commerce are respected and facilitated.

  • Eminent Indian-American mathematician Nikhil Srivastava, has been jointly selected for the inaugural $5,000 Ciprian Foias Prize for the "highly original work" in Operator Theory by the American Mathematical Society (AMS).

  • Along with Prof. Srivastava, who teaches at the University of California, Berkeley, the two other awardees are Adam Marcus and Daniel Spielman.

  • Pakistan to allow Indian aid to Afghanistan to pass through

  • One month after India offered humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan said his Government would allow the aid to transit over the land route through Pakistan.

  •  India had protested the delay in Pakistan’s permissions for the aid to be facilitated, including most recently at the 8-nation Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan in New Delhi, which had ended with a declaration that called for assistance to be ‘unimpeded’.
